About this event

You may have been introduced to online databases such as Google Scholar, Web of Knowledge and Scopus, but learning how to make the most of them can be challenging. This in-depth workshop will show you how to do ‘advanced searching’ (beyond Author / Title / Keyword) and explain the secrets and joys of  citation searching, the h-index, and ‘impact factor’.

Two sessions to be led by Dr Tim Eggington (Fellow Librarian) will take place on Tuesday 23rd February at 1.30-2.30pm and 5.30-6.30pm via Zoom. This will be an interactive session where you are encouraged to follow along.

These sessions are aimed at Queens' graduate students - if you are an undergraduate, please see our other sessions: https://www.queens.cam.ac.uk/life-at-queens/news-and-events/queens-library-research-skills-workshops-lent-term

Founded in 1448, Queens' College Library consists of both old and new. The Old Library is still situated in its original room with bookcases made from medieval lecterns. Although none of the original collection remains, the library holds a fine and hugely significant collection of c. 30,000 early printed books and manuscripts dating from the 12th to 19th centuries.

Occupying the old Chapel, the student library (War Memorial Library) is spread over 3 floors and provides a variety of study spaces, as well as books for all tripos subjects and friendly librarians who are happy to help with any questions.
